1444. FAO-JIRCAS Policy Brief Released

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has recently released a policy brief on the FAO-JIRCAS collaboration. The brief outlines recent achievements under JIRCAS's Environment, Food, and Information programs, including research activities on BNI, quinoa, and Green Asia, and introduces the collaborative relationship between FAO and JIRCAS.

The policy brief describes JIRCAS as one of Japan's leading agricultural research institute, with a focus on tropical and subtropical zones and developing regions. Based on a shared vision for addressing global challenges in agri-food systems and a mutual commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), FAO and JIRCAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2014. Since the partnership was established, FAO and JIRCAS have been working together to transform agri-food systems, leveraging their respective strengths.

As a public research institute specializing in agricultural science in tropical and subtropical regions, JIRCAS conducts research projects through three major research programs—Environment, Food, and Information—which are closely aligned with FAO's Four Betters (Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment, Better Life) organizational principle. The FAO-JIRCAS collaboration based on the MoU has already generated promising synergies by leveraging the comparative advantages of both organizations, and even more results are expected in the future.
