1118. World Food Day 2024
World Food Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to think about the world's food problems. It was established in 1981 to commemorate the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on October 16, 1945. Every year, numerous international organizations and organizations involved in ensuring food security widely celebrate the event.
The theme for 2024 is "Right to foods for a better life and a better future".
More than 2.8 billion people worldwide cannot afford a healthy diet. Unhealthy diets are the leading cause of malnutrition in all its forms, including malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity, and they exist across socioeconomic strata in many countries. Today, too many people suffer from hunger and cannot afford a healthy diet. People from more vulnerable segments of society are forced to rely on staple foods and inexpensive but unhealthy foods. For others, they tend to choose unhealthy diets because fresh or varied foods are hard to come by, or because they lack the information they need to make healthy dietary choices, or simply because they find unhealthy foods more convenient.
Hunger and malnutrition are exacerbated by protracted crises caused by a combination of conflict, extreme weather events, and economic shocks. Agri-food systems are vulnerable to disasters and crises, especially the effects of climate change, but they also contribute to environmental pollution, degradation of soil, water, and air, greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity loss. Transforming agri-food systems has great potential to mitigate climate change and ensure peaceful, resilient, and inclusive livelihoods for all.
