Dr. MATSUI Kayo (Researcher, Rural Development Division) received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the International Salinity Conference 3.0 – WE-CARE-2025, held in Goa, India, from October 29 to November 1, 2025.

The conference, titled “Worldwide Efforts on Cutting-Edge Approaches for Restoring Saline Ecosystems,” brought together researchers and experts from around the world to share the latest research and strengthen collaboration on the restoration and management of salt-affected agricultural lands.

Dr. Matsui presented her research evaluating the effectiveness of drainage improvement technologies introduced in salt-affected areas from the perspective of soil chemistry. Her study proposed optimal timing and construction methods for implementing these technologies to improve salinity conditions. The scientific contribution and practical applicability of her work were highly evaluated leading to her selection for the award.

In addition, at the same conference, Dr. ONISHI Junya (Project Leader, Rural Development Division) was honored as an Honorary Fellow by the Indian Society of Soil Salinity and Water Quality (ISSSWQ) in recognition of his longstanding contributions to research on saline soils.

These awards demonstrate that the research activities promoted by JIRCAS toward sustainable agriculture and regional development are internationally recognized.
