On Monday, September 29, 2025, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) participated as an exhibitor in the “Joint Information Session on Research Institutions for Doctoral Students” held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center, hosted by the University of Tsukuba. This event, held for the first time this year, was designed to help doctoral students gain a better understanding of the work conducted at domestic research institutions and to support their future career development.

The event attracted a large number of doctoral students from the University of Tsukuba and other institutions, who had the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from various research organizations about their work and career paths. Representing JIRCAS were Drs. HAYASHI Keiichi (Program Director for Environment), ISHIJIMA Mitsuo (Director of the Rural Development Division), and OMORI Keisuke (Head of the Information and Public Relations Office), who introduced JIRCAS’s research activities and engaged in Q&A sessions.

During discussions with visiting students, there was active exchange of ideas regarding their research interests, areas of expertise, concerns about social issues, and future career aspirations. In response to questions and concerns about research approaches and job hunting, JIRCAS introduced its support systems and shared examples of working styles within the organization. Many students expressed positive responses such as “I want to work in an international research environment” and “I want to conduct research that contributes to society.”

JIRCAS will continue to engage with the next generation of researchers, sharing the appeal of working at a research institution and the value of international collaborative research, while striving to foster future talent.
