In conjunction with the Science Q program of Tsukuba Science City, Dr. Kouki Maeda, Senior Researcher of the Crop Livestock and Environment Division gave an on-site lesson to Grade 6 pupils of Katsuragi Elementary School on January 31, 2019. The lecture focused on greenhouse gas emissions from the livestock industry, impact on global warming, contribution of microorganisms in the rumen and waste of cattle, and international frameworks at the Convention of Parties (COP). Visual aids were used to explain rumen microorganisms and composting to the children. Prior to this class, the children were assigned to voluntarily investigate global warming in order to get them interested on the topic.
