JIRCAS Participation in COP25 held in Spain

JIRCAS Sub-Project Leader, Dr. Taro Izumi participated in the 25th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) and related workshops held from December 2 to 15, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.

The 25th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) was held from December 2 to 15, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.  At the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), JIRCAS participated in the COP25 and related workshops organized during the session, and was represented by Sub-Project Leader Dr. Taro Izumi. The workshop focusing on efficient utilization of  nutrients was held in conjunction with the “Koronovia Joint Work on Agriculture”, which was adopted at COP23 in order to recognize the fundamental importance of agriculture in responding to climate change. The JIRCAS research project on Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI), which could lead to reduction of greenhouse gas emission, was introduced in this workshop.
