Project Leader Tsujimoto et al. Win Japanese Society of Crop Science Best Paper Award

Dr. TSUJIMOTO Yasuhiro, Project Leader of the “Africa rice farming system” project, and colleagues from the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division received the 20th Japanese Society of Crop Science Best Paper Award for the paper titled "AZ-97 (Oryza sativa ssp. Indica) exhibits superior biomass production by maintaining the tiller numbers, leaf width, and leaf elongation rate under phosphorus deficiency".

Ceremony for the Completion of the SATREPS Madagascar Project

A ceremony to celebrate the completion of the FyVary Project (Breakthrough in nutrient use efficiency for rice by genetic improvement and fertility sensing techniques in Africa), under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), was held on September 8, 2022 at the Hotel Colbert in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

New Rice Varieties Developed by JIRCAS Introduced to the President of Madagascar

On May 10, 2022, at the completion ceremony of the “Project for Rehabilitation of Irrigation System in South-West of Alaotra Lake”, a grant assistance project by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the President of Madagascar was briefed on new rice varieties (FyVary32 and FyVary85) developed through the SATREPS project “Breakthrough in Nutrient Use Efficiency for Rice by Genetic Improvement and Fertility Sensing Techniques in Africa (Fy Vary Project)” which is being implemented by JIRCAS.

Workshop on Rapid Soil Fertility Evaluation Technology Held in Madagascar

A workshop on the rapid soil fertility evaluation technology developed in conjunction with the SATREPS "Project for Breakthrough in Nutrient Use Efficiency for Rice by Genetic Improvement and Fertility Sensing Techniques in Africa” was held in Madagascar to disseminate the output of the project to agricultural technology extension workers and other beneficiaries.

Project Leader TSUJIMOTO Receives the 20th Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists

Dr. TSUJIMOTO Yasuhiro, Project Leader in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division of JIRCAS has been awarded the 20th Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists, for his research on the development and dissemination of effective rice fertilization technology suitable for cultivation environments in Africa. The award is given by the Foundation of Agricultural Sciences of Japan to young researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of agriculture.

Project Leader Tsujimoto and Collaborators Receive the ACSAC10 Best Presentation Award

The research results of Project Leader Dr. TSUJIMOTO Yasuhiro and collaborators on the interaction between the effect of phosphorus fertilization and climatic conditions for rice yields, presented by Dr. Bruce Haja Andrianary of the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, received the Best Presentation Award at the 10th Asian Crop Science Association Conference (ACSAC), which was held online on September 8-10, 2021. 

Dr. Nishigaki Bags Best Poster Presentation Award at the Annual Meeting 2021 of the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition

Dr. NISHIGAKI Tomohiro, Researcher in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division, received the award for excellence in poster presentation at the annual meeting 2021 of the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (JSSSPN) held online on September 14-16, 2021. The winning poster was titled “Cultivation of Stylosanthes guianensis can enhance phosphorus dynamics and following rice production in the central highlands of Madagascar”.

Madagascar Agriculture Minister Visits the Demonstration Test Site for Phosphorus Dipping Treatment (P-dipping) Technology

On February 26, 2021, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Madagascar visited the demonstration test site of the SATREPS project conducted by JIRCAS in Madagascar, providing an opportunity to promote the phosphorus dipping treatment (P-dipping) technology for rice cultivation and promising breeding lines developed in the project.
