“Science and Technology Week” was established in February 1960 to promote science and technology in Japan. For FY 2024, the week beginning Monday, April 15, was designated as Science and Technology Week. JIRCAS took part in various events and shared information about its work in international research related to agricultural, forestry, and fisheries.
The “TSUKUBA SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY PRE EVENT 2024,” a pre-event for Science and Technology Week, was held in Tsukuba City on Sunday, April 14. Research institutions and scientific communities in the city gathered to interact with visitors through exhibitions and talk events. JIRCAS showcased its research projects on “Carbon Recycling” and “Environmentally Adaptive Forestry” in the booth area, informing many people about the environmental issues surrounding oil palm plantations and the unique characteristics of forestry overseas. Additionally, Dr. UKE Ayaka (Researcher, Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division) participated in a “TALK SESSION” during the event, introducing research activities on the effective use of biomass.
On Monday, April 15, the “JIRCAS ONLINE Science and Technology Week Special Site” was launched, where mini-lectures and talks by JIRCAS researchers were streamed for a limited time. The site was viewed approximately 1,0000 times between April 15 and 30. Thank you to everyone who watched.
We hope that more people will become aware of JIRCAS through these “Science and Technology Week” activities.
