JIRCAS President, Dr. Masa Iwanaga paid a courtesy visit to Minister Lemine Mint El Ghotob Ould Moma of the Ministry of Agriculture of Mauritania on September 18, 2018 in conjunction with the joint collaboration of JIRCAS and the National Anti-Locust Centre (CNLA) under the Ministry of Agriculture of Mauritania.

JIRCAS President, Dr. Masa Iwanaga paid a courtesy visit to Minister Lemine Mint El Ghotob Ould Moma of the Ministry of Agriculture of Mauritania on September 18, 2018. A joint research collaboration on the “Preventive control for desert locust pest in Mauritania” in conjunction with the project on “Development of technologies for the control of migratory plant pests and transboundary diseases” is being undertaken by JIRCAS and the National Anti-Locust Centre (CNLA) under the Ministry of Agriculture of Mauritania.

The meeting confirmed that the development of preventive control of desert locust pest is extremely important for the development of the West African region including Mauritania. In addition, Mauritania aims to produce rice in its own country, and is focusing on research and development aimed at improving the quality of rice seeds. This visit was covered by the local media and attracted a lot of interest in the scientific community of Mauritania.
