Introduction of JIRCAS Research at KMITL Agricultural Fair 2026
From February 6 to 15, 2026, the KMITL Agricultural Fair 2026 was held at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in Bangkok, Thailand. This fair is a comprehensive annual exhibition in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and food organized by the university, and it is the largest event of its kind in eastern Bangkok. The venue featured a wide variety of programs, including the sale of local agricultural products and processed foods, research presentations by students and researchers, and hands-on activities, attracting many visitors throughout the event.
The 3rd International Workshop on Sustainable Management of Sugarcane White Leaf Disease Held in Thailand
From March 3 to 4, 2026, the 3rd International Workshop on Sustainable Management of Sugarcane White Leaf Disease was held at Khon Kaen University in Khon Kaen, Thailand.
This workshop was organized based on the contents of the “Healthy Seedcane Propagation and Distribution Manual Against Sugarcane White Leaf Disease,” which was jointly developed by JIRCAS, Khon Kaen University, and the Department of Agriculture of Thailand, and published in 2021 by the Office of the Cane and Sugar Board under Thailand’s Ministry of Industry.
JIRCAS Forestry Division Researchers Tanaka and Katsuura Receive Awards from the Japanese Forestry Society
On March 16, 2026, the award ceremony for the Japanese Forestry Society was held during the 137th Annual Meeting of the Society at the Tsukuba International Congress Center.
At the ceremony, Dr. TANAKA Kenzo, Senior Researcher in the Forestry Division of JIRCAS, received the Society Award, while Dr. KATSUURA Hiiragi, Researcher in the same division, received the Young Scientist Encouragement Award.
International Workshop on Environmentally Adaptive Forestry Held at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia
On February 9–10, 2026, an international workshop titled “Environmentally Adaptive Forestry Techniques for Southeast Asian Tree Species” was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The workshop summarized the achievements of the medium- and long-term plan under the grant-funded project “Environmentally Adaptive Forestry.” Launched in fiscal year 2021, this project aims to develop technologies for the restoration of forest resources in tropical forests degraded by overharvesting and to establish methods for selecting tree species and varieties with enhanced environmental adaptability.
JIRCAS Research Highlights Presented at Kaset Fair 2026, Kasetsart University, Thailand
Kaset Fair 2026, an agricultural exhibition, is being held at Kasetsart University in Thailand from January 30 to February 7, 2026. Kaset Fair, Thailand's largest agricultural and food trade fair, is hosted annually by Kasetsart University. During the event, the university campus hosts a wide variety of exhibits, from research highlights related to the agriculture and food industry to sales of agricultural and food products, attracting many visitors.
Fisheries Division Researcher SAITO Minoru Receives Best Oral Presentation Award at the 5th Thailand International Symposium on Natural History Museums (TISNHM 2025)
At the 5th Thailand International Symposium on Natural History Museums (TISNHM 2025), held at the National Science Museum of Thailand in Pathum Thani (near Bangkok) from November 27 to 29, 2025, Researcher SAITO Minoru from the Fisheries Division received the Best Oral Presentation Award. The event was organized to share knowledge and techniques related to natural history research and museum exhibitions and brought together researchers, museum professionals, and students from nine countries, mainly in Southeast Asia.
JIRCAS Showcases Research at Thailand Science and Technology Fair 2025, Receives Recognition
Thailand’s National Science and Technology Fair is the country’s largest annual science and technology exhibition. This year, it was held over nine days from August 9 to 17 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, attracting around 200,000 visitors, mainly local elementary, junior high, and high school students.
Participation in the ASEAN Task Force Meeting and Presentation of Demonstration Results on Intermittent Irrigation in Green Asia
At the invitation of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) participated in the “3rd ASEAN Task Force Meeting: Finalizing the Strategic Framework for Food, Agriculture, and Forestry (FAF),” held from June 30 to July 1, 2025. During the research presentation session from Japan on July 1, JIRCAS presented the results of its research on intermittent irrigation.
Report on Pilot Study Results of Technologies Listed in the Technology Catalog at the Open Session of the ASEAN Agricultural Research and Development Technology Working Group
On May 16, 2025, JIRCAS participated in the open session of the 19th ASEAN Agricultural Research and Development Technology Working Group (ASEAN ATWGARD) held in Bangkok. This session serves as a platform for development partners to provide input to stakeholders from ASEAN countries.
58 Young Agricultural Trainees from ASEAN Countries Visit JIRCAS
On Monday, February 19, 2024, 58 young agricultural trainees from Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines visited JIRCAS. The trainees were divided into two groups for an introduction to JIRCAS research (indoor lecture) and an outdoor tour at the Hachimandai Experimental Field.
