On March 13, 2026, a delegation led by Mr. Adam Nowak, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Poland, visited the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS). They exchanged views on agricultural challenges with President KOYAMA Osamu (at the time) and others.

From JIRCAS, following an overview presentation, Project Leader ONISHI Junya and Senior Researcher IKEURA Hiroshi introduced technologies such as shallow subsurface drainage systems designed for water conservation and methods for generating fresh water from water vapor inside greenhouses.

From Poland’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, explanations were given regarding drought and flood occurrences caused by changing rainfall patterns, as well as the aging of the agricultural workforce.

Although this was the first visit to JIRCAS by a Polish delegation, common challenges such as climate change and an aging population were identified. Following the visit, inquiries regarding the research have continued, suggesting potential for expanding collaboration through future partnerships.
