On May 13th and 14th, the Workshop on Developing the Guidelines for the Reduction of Crop Burning in ASEAN was held in Bali, Indonesia. In the ASEAN region, crop burning (including the burning of rice straw and other crop residues) has become a major concern due to its impact on air pollution and other effects in surrounding areas. As a result, ASEAN decided to create guidelines to address this issue. This workshop aimed to share expert knowledge and advance the development of these guidelines.
As part of the Green Asia project activities, JIRCAS published the “Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region Ver.2.0” in September 2023. In response to a request from the ASEAN Secretariat, JIRCAS selected technologies that can contribute to crop burning reduction from among those listed in the technology catalog and presented them during the workshop.
