Newly Hired Staff of Ibaraki Prefecture's Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Visit JIRCAS

A group of 23 newly hired staff members of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Ibaraki Prefectural Government visited JIRCAS on December 5, 2022.

On December 5, 2022, a group of 23 new employees of the of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Ibaraki Prefectural Government visited JIRCAS for the purpose of improving their qualifications through self-organized training. The lecture session was divided into first and second half, with the introduction of JIRCAS research activities and a tour of some research facilities.

In the first half of the session, after a lecture on overview of JIRCAS, Project Leader IZUMI Taro (Rural Development division) talked about the effects of intermittent irrigation on rice yield and methane emissions in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Then, Project Leader YOSHIHASHI Tadashi (Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division) talked about the history of BNI research and its effects on the global environment.

In the latter half of the session, Project Leader Marcy WILDER (Fisheries Division) gave an overview of physiological and biochemical studies on the reproduction and aquaculture of shrimp. Then, while observing an actual aquaculture facility, Senior Researcher KANG Bong Jung (Fisheries Division) introduced the research on the application of aquaculture technology.
