A total of 16 students from the Department of International Development Studies, College of Bioresource Sciences, Nihon University visited JIRCAS on September 16, 2022, to learn about practical examples of research in international agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and to expand their horizons.

After an overview of JIRCAS, Senior Researcher WATANABE Mamoru (Rural Development) Division) talked about the relationship between climate change and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries based on the results of his research in Southeast Asian countries. Then, Senior Researcher NAGATOSHI Yukari (Biological Resources and Post-harvest Division) introduced her research in Bolivia on the development of resilient and enhanced crops targeting the super food "quinoa" and its application to the agriculture industry.

Although mainly lecture-based, the students eagerly took notes and asked questions to the lecturers even after the session was over. We hope that this visit will help the students to increase their awareness on the world's environmental and food issues, and contribute to their future research activities in the university seminar.
