Gunma Prefectural Maebashi High School Students Visit JIRCAS

A group of 24 high school students and one teacher from Gunma Prefectural Maebashi High School visited JIRCAS on October 28, 2020 through the "Tsukuba Science Tour" program. For safety and precautionary measures, wearing mask and maintaining social distancing were observed during the visit.

A group of 24 high school students and one teacher from Gunma Prefectural Maebashi High School visited JIRCAS on October 28, 2020 through the "Tsukuba Science Tour" program. For safety and precautionary measures,  wearing mask and maintaining social distancing were observed during the visit.

The school has been designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) with a curriculum that prioritizes science, technology and mathematics. The SSH activities also include promotion of learning through problem-solving, observations and hands-on experiences in experimental research in collaboration with universities and research institutes, to develop future international science and technology human resources.

This time, the Project Leader Dr. MORIOKA Shinsuke (Fisheries Division) gave a lecture on fish age determination based on the daily growth increments in the otoliths and introduced the characteristics of the fish that inhabit the waters around Laos, which can contribute to resource conservation and management in the region.
