TARF Open House Day 2018

The Open House Day of the Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) was held on June 24, 2019 with exhibits and demonstrations centered on the JIRCAS slogan "seeding for the future".

The Open House Day of the Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) was held on June 24, 2019. This is the 13th time since the event was first organized in 2006. Advances in agricultural technology in developing regions are very important for Japan, where much of the daily food is supported by imports from overseas. Solving the world's agricultural problems is not possible without international cooperation. TARF also collaborates with research institutions in Africa and Southeast Asia to conduct local research on agricultural sustainability and stable production of agricultural products. Therefore, in conjunction with JIRCAS slogan “Seeding for the Future”, research activities of TARF that contribute to the achievement of sustainable agriculture, global research collaborations, local crops, domestic and international information were presented using panel exhibitions, mini-lectures and demonstrations for children and adults.

A total of 651 visitors including 415 adults and 236 children of elementary school age and younger, attended and participated in various events and hands-on activities. The Open House Day allowed the general public particularly the residents of Ishigaki island to learn about the activities of TARF, interact with TARF researchers and staff, deepen understanding of global issues affecting agriculture, and more importantly, to enjoy and have fun.

The TARF Open House Day 2018 was reported in the June 26, 2018 issue of Yaeyama Mainichi Newspaper and July 4, 2018 issue of Okinawa Times.
