From November 26 to 28, 2024 (Tue to Thu), JIRCAS showcased its research findings at the "Agribusiness Creation Fair 2024" held at Tokyo Big Sight. This event, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, is a technical exchange exhibition that showcases the latest research results in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and food from industry, academia, and government across the country, and promotes collaboration between research institutes and businesses.
This year, 136 research institutes from across the country exhibited, showcasing their latest research results. Various programs related to the promotion of the MIDORI Strategy for Sustainable Food Systems and the creation of startups were also held, along with lectures by experts.
From JIRCAS, the progress of the "BNI-enhanced wheat" which can significantly reduce nitrogen fertilization, attracting worldwide attention, was displayed through panels and wheat samples. Additionally, effective technologies such as the "P-dipping" rice fertilization technique, which can increase rice yields in phosphorus-deficient soils in Africa amidst the global surge in chemical fertilizer prices, and the development of rice with the MP3 gene to increase the number of panicles in tropical rice discovered from Koshihikari, were showcased. The Sasakawa Africa Association also cooperated in the exhibition to introduce TERRA Africa, a technology development project for the establishment of environmentally regenerative agriculture in Africa, as part of the Nippon Foundation's overseas cooperation assistance program.
During the event, many visitors came to the booth of JIRCAS, expressing that they were aware of or had heard of JIRCAS, which was encouraging.
