On November 21, 2024 (Thu), 11 first-year master's students from the Department of Global Agricultural Sciences and 7 first- and second-year master's students from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at the University of Tokyo, along with one professor, visited JIRCAS as part of their lecture on "Advanced International Agriculture II."
First, Dr. SHIRATORI Sakiko (Project Leader in the Information and Public Relations Office, also an Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and Dr. UEDA Yoshiaki (Researcher in the Crop, Livestock and Environment Division) introduced the organization of JIRCAS and the research currently being undertaken. The students then had the opportunity to engage in discussions. Following this, Dr. Marcy Wilder (Project Leader in the Fisheries Division, also an Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences) guided the students through the fisheries research facilities, while Dr. TSUJIMOTO Yasuhiro (Project Leader, Crop, Livestock and Environment Division, also an Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences) provided a tour of the soil analysis laboratory and greenhouse.
For students interested in international issues, the activities of JIRCAS, which aim to contribute to solving global challenges such as food and environmental issues, must have been quite appealing. Thank you for your visit.
