The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for research cooperation between JIRCAS and the Agricultural Research Institute of Guinea (IRAG) was signed on October 8, 2017.

An agreement for joint research collaboration on rice cultivation was initially concluded in May 1994. However, the MOU was suspended due to changes in local conditions. In June of this year, President Alpha Conde of Guinea visited JIRCAS and expressed his desire to resume joint research with JIRCAS. Prior to this conclusion, Vice-President KOYAMA Osamu and two other researchers visited related research organizations in Guinea and exchanged opinions on the direction of the project and issues of joint research.
