1)To understand soil nutrient status and estimate fertilizer requirements for paddy rice field in the project sites of Madagascar, multiple nutrient omission plot technique trials were established. With counterparts and Ph.D students, yield related parameters were recorded in the field and then, the plots with mature rice crops were harvested.

2)After harvest, soil samples were also collected from different fields of two complete rice terraces to analyze variation in soil properties and nutrient status especially phosphorus (P) retention and availability in soils under farmers’ field conditions.

3) At laboratory of Radioisotopes (LRI), Antananarivo University, preliminary trial was tested by using rhizon box to focus on underlying mechanism of improving rice grain yield under localized P application in soils with high P fixation capacity.
