現地圃場試験の収穫

We aim to evaluate the field performance of rice breeding lines developed at JIRCAS, and a set of genome-wide association study (GWAS) panel (obtained from IRRI), in farmer’s field in three different rice producing areas of Madagascar. Therefore, I traveled to Madagascar from 2019 May 06 to June 14, to harvest the on-going SATREPS field experiments for the 2018-2019 cropping season, and to set a generation advance/seed multiplication trial of selected breeding lines in a warm area of Madagascar (Mahajanga). Together with our project counterparts (C/Ps), during harvest we collected yield-related parameters directly in the field and carried several plant samples to the laboratory to obtain their dry matter. For seed multiplication, we transplanted individual seedlings into paddy field amended with fertilizer to secure the production of sufficient amount of seeds for the next cropping season. In addition, we monitored the renovation of the greenhouse allocated to our Project, which at this time is already being used for drying samples. The Ambatobe laboratory is ready to use, thus we conducted a short training there on proper equipment usage and basic genotyping techniques.
