TOYOSHIMA Sota (Compliance Management Section, Risk Management Office) : Administrative Staff

What motivated you to apply at JIRCAS?

The reason why I wanted to work at JIRCAS is because of its ability to support research on global issues. Recently, the SDGs have been attracting a lot of attention, and it is imperative to build a sustainable society so that we can continue to live on this earth that is rich in nature. Currently, the International Agricultural Research Institute is involved in almost all of the 17 goals of the SDGs. There are not many organizations that are so involved, and I thought we could make a comprehensive contribution to global issues. And even now that I am working here, that feeling is growing stronger everyday.

What are some of the best and most rewarding experiences you have had in your current job?

The Compliance Management Section conducts compliance training for all employees. Through this training, I find it very rewarding to be able to play a "behind-the-scenes" role in the organization. Compliance is essential for organizational activities. I am very proud to be able to work on compliance training, which can be said to be the foundation of such organizational activities. Putting together the content of this training is very difficult, but I feel it is a valuable experience.

What message would you like to convey to everyone?

here are many dependable supervisors and senior colleagues at JIRCAS, and it is a good workplace with a cheerful atmosphere. On my day-offs and during lunch breaks, I enjoy playing baseball and tennis with my co-workers which deepen our exchanges. Some of the researchers are foreign nationals, so I enjoy being able to experience cultures from all over the world even though I am in Japan. I am not often in Tokyo because of the COVID pandemic, but I find it attractive that I can go to Tokyo quickly from the main office of JIRCAS, where I work, by using the Tsukuba Express train.
