Research Collaborator from Madagascar Visits JIRCAS

From July 15 to September 5, Dr. ANDRIANARIJAONA Lalaina, a research collaborator from the Laboratoire des Radioisotopes (LRI), University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, visited JIRCAS for a short-term training program.

During her stay, Dr. ANDRIANARIJAONA participated in studies related to "Output 1: Development of advanced rice paddy field utilization technology that both improves productivity and reduces environmental impact." She focused on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in rice cultivation. Her activities included root and soil sampling in the field, analyzing soil properties (pH, EC, available phosphorus, total nitrogen, total carbon, etc.), measuring methane and nitrous oxide emissions, and performing microbial DNA analyses.

In addition, Dr. ANDRIANARIJAONA evaluated the effects of different fertilization methods on GHG emissions using simulation analysis with the DNDC model. Based on these results, she also contributed to manuscript preparation on sustainable rice cultivation.
