The 8th Farmers’ Workshop was held on December 2nd, 2025
The 8th Farmers' Water Users Association Workshop was held at the Pursat Provincial Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Office (PDAFF) on December 2, 2025 with 45 participants, including project site farmers, local authorities, PDAFF, PDWRAM, RUA, and Japanese researchers. The purpose was to understand the current status of water management between rice paddies using field-crossing irrigation among farmers in the project site, in preparation for future intermittent irrigation (AWD: Alternate Wetting and Drying) implementation. Farmers were asked to clarify pump usage and water exchange between rice paddies using sticky notes with arrows on a large map of each irrigation block. This revealed that the field-crossing irrigation situation is extremely complex.
Furthermore, to build a decision-making support system for farmers regarding future AWD implementation, we conducted a questionnaire survey to learn about each farmer's intentions regarding AWD implementation and the current status of communication via social media. While all farmers expressed a positive attitude toward introducing AWD, concerns and challenges regarding the technology were also identified.
Farmers' cooperation is essential to achieving our goal of implementing AWD throughout the entire project site. We intend to continue to communicate closely with farmers.
