The 11th and 12th Farmers' Workshops were held on June 25th and July 29th, 2026.

On June 25, 2026, the 11th Farmers' Workshop was held, primarily to explain the rotation irrigation trial. At the workshop, the project team presented a rotation irrigation schedule divided into six blocks, and an agreement was reached to conduct a one-month trial implementation. Furthermore, a portion of the third rotation block (RB3), supplied by a distribution gate installed in the tertiary canal, was designated as a demonstration site, and a demonstration trial of intermittent irrigation (AWD) was initiated with farmers. At the demonstration site, elevation measurements were taken at 126 points, water level gauges were installed in four fields, and a system was established to precisely measure water level fluctuations due to irrigation, providing foundational data for the construction of a future water movement simulation model for paddy field irrigation.

 

Subsequently, on July 29, the 12th Farmers' Workshop was held. The schedule for the rotation irrigation that had been implemented since June was explained again, and continued cooperation was requested. Furthermore, we presented the test results from farm fields in the RB3 district, where farmers have been cooperating in the AWD demonstration test, demonstrating that the water level dropped below the ground surface and that AWD was being implemented. We asked the farmers to continue implementing rotation irrigation. The project team also explained the necessity of collecting water management fees for operation, maintenance and management by the Farmer Water User Sub-committee and urged them to accelerate the consideration of collection methods. Finally, we conducted a questionnaire survey of farmers regarding their water management situation.

 

During the workshop, we also exchanged opinions with farmers. This year, even though the rainy season had begun, there was little rain, resulting in insufficient water in the main irrigation channels, and the electric pumps introduced by the project were not able to operate fully. From July 29th, the water level in the main irrigation channels rose, and sufficient water was supplied to the branch channels, allowing the electric pumps to operate for extended periods. However, since the pumps' capacity has not been fully utilized until now, it was evident that farmers are struggling with water management.
