The third short-term training in Japan (LCA) was held.

From November 17 to 22, 2025, the training for Cambodia counterparts was held in Japan. The three researchers from Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), Mr. Kim Soben, Mr. Siem Teamhy and Ms. Yutha Nida joined this program.

In Tsukuba (Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences), the trainees received explanations on the concepts, analytical method, and LCA-GHG emission calculation methods for impact assessment using LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) in agriculture sector. They also participated in exercises to understand the application of analysis software. During the exercises, the trainees were divided into two teams. Using popular and traditional rice-based sweets from Japan and Cambodia as case studies, each team performed an LCA analysis, calculated LCA-GHG emissions, and presented their results. Based on feedback from experts, the teams and experts discussed improvements and future applications.

In the later parts, the trainees traveled to Ishikawa prefecture, where they visited the project office for Irrigation/Drainage and Farmland Disaster Prevention in Kahoku-Gata area, and received explanations the project evaluation including environmental impact. The trainees deepened their understanding of the cost-effectiveness and environmental assessment of Japanese irrigation and drainage project. They also visited an irrigation pump station and received explanations about the activities of the Kahoku-Gata Reclamation Land Improvement District, and had a chance for Q&A. This provided the trainees with a valuable opportunity to understand Japanese examples of the levies for operation and maintenance and facility management.

Although the weather is usually cloudy, the day turned out to be unexpectedly sunny. The officers at the Kahoku-Gata project were very surprised, calling it miraculously good weather for this time of year. Thanks to the cooperation of the office and all related parties, and blessed with good weather, the trainees conducted their training in high spirits before leaving Japan.

It is hoped that the knowledge and experience gained during this training will be utilized in the future project activities.
