The second short-term training in Japan (ICT Water Management) was held.

Training for Cambodian counterparts was conducted in Japan from June 1 to 13, 2025. The participants were Dr. Song Layheang and Mr. Hout Meng Hour from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).

During the first week, the trainees visited the Institute for Rural Engineering of the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Tokyo University of Agriculture (TUA), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). At the Institute for Rural Engineering of the NARO, they received an explanation about the current situation of various agricultural engineering research and exchanged opinions about the application of SATREPS project to the field. At the TUA, they visited the experimental farm where new observation equipment is being developed, and experienced rice planting using Japanese-style machinery. At the MAFF, they received an explanation about the Sustainable Food System Strategy "MIDORI," an agricultural policy against global warming, as well as policies for irrigation, drainage and rural infrastructure development through the Land Improvement Project.

On June 9, the trainees traveled to Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, where they visited the Akagawa area, which is part of a national Land Improvement Project. The staff of Shonai Akagawa Land Improvement District explained to them the current state of management of irrigation facilities and the operation of the land improvement district. They also visited an area equipped with automated water actuators (WATARAS) and pump irrigation automation systems (KiDAS) and observed the state of automated water management using information and communication technology. They also visited Gassan Dam, a multipurpose dam managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, where they received an explanation about dam management according to weather conditions and consideration for the ecosystem.

The trainees were blessed with good weather throughout the period, and it was impressive to see the trainees actively asking questions to deepen their understanding, even with a tight schedule.
