Workshop of Fy Vary Output 1 “Development of evaluation techniques and geographical maps of nutrient characteristics” held in Madagascar
A workshop to demonstrate and disseminate the new soil evaluation technique developed under Output 1, “Development of evaluation techniques and geographical maps of nutrient characteristics” of the Fy Vary Project was held in Madagascar on April 29, 2022.
The workshop was attended by a total of 28 participants, mainly agricultural technology extension agents and technical officers from agricultural research institutes, who were the beneficiaries. In session 1, there were three presentations on the new field nutrient characterization methods developed by the Output 1 group, explaining the scientific rationale, scope, and application of each tecnique.
Among the presenters, JIRCAS researcher, Dr. NISHIGAKI Tomohiro (Crop, Livestock and Environment Division), gave a presentation on the technique for estimating the growth response of rice plants to phosphorus application from the moisture content ratio of air-dried soil. The Q&A session after the presentation was conducted in Malagasy, but through an interpreter, many practical questions were asked with a view to applying the technology in the field, indicating the high level of interest in the technology that has been developed.
In session 2, an overview of the operation of each technique was demonstrated, and again, participants actively asked questions to the presenters, showing their positive attitude toward learning the technologies.
