Intensive lecture of Genetic Breeding at University of Antananarivo

Intensive lecture of breeding science by senior researcher Wissuwa, leader of output 2

For two days of March 3 and 4, 2018, Matthias Wissuwa, senior researcher of JIRCAS and output 2 leader had intensive lecture of breeding science at LRI conference room for counterpart FOIFIA researchers in output2, University  of  Antananarivo graduate school students, technical staff of Ministry to the Presidency for Agriculture and Livestock (MPAE). The lecture had wide contents; Green revolution by IRRI, QTL analysis, GWAS analysis, marker selection and so on, with active questions and discussions. They contributed to enhance faculties of madagascar researchers and students.

COURSE OUTLINE

DAY 1

10 – 12 AM:          Introduction; classical breeding vs molecular breeding

13 – 15 PM:          QTL and association mapping

DAY 2

10 – 12 AM:          From mapping to genes and markers

13 – 15 PM:          Marker Assisted Selection (MAS)

KEWORDS

  • Green revolution – traditional varieties – semi-dwarf varieties - IRRI
  • Yield potential – yield gap – yield erosion - target traits/environments
  • Variation - recombination - selection - donor - recipient/recurrent parent
  • Single seed descent - pedigree - backcross
  • Marker assisted selection (MAS) - marker assisted backcrossing (MABC)
  • Qualitative trait - quantitative trait - quantitative trait locus (QTL)
  • Heritability - environmental variation - genotypic variation
  • Genotyping - parental survey - polymorphism - phenotyping
  • QTL mapping - QTL confirmation - QTL effect & strength (R2)
