Business Trip to Madagascar–Output 4, Assistant Professor, Kyoto University Ryousuke Nakamura
Assistant Professor Ryosuke Nakamura of Kyoto University, a member of Output 4 of the SATREPS VaryAla Project, traveled to Madagascar in August to conduct field research.
During this mission, a vegetation survey was conducted in Ankarafantsika National Park, Madagascar, to monitor forest dynamics. Within the long-term forest dynamics plot (15 ha), data were collected on tree growth, survival, and mortality. In addition, newly appeared tree individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 1 cm or greater were also surveyed.
Drawing on his experience from participating in forest vegetation surveys in the park since 2019, as well as his understanding of the survey history and protocols, Dr. Nakamura was able to carry out the survey efficiently within a limited period. Furthermore, the on-site handover for future vegetation surveys, which will continue on a long-term basis, was successfully completed.
