Overview

On Monday, March 9, 2026, JIRCAS signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement with Tokyo University of Agriculture (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo) aimed at further strengthening the promotion of international agriculture, forestry, and fisheries research, human resource development, social implementation of research results, and related areas. On the same day, a signing ceremony was held at the Tokyo University of Agriculture Setagaya Campus, where representatives from both institutions signed the agreement.

Tokyo University of Agriculture is one of Japan’s leading educational and research institutions in fields such as agriculture, life sciences, and food science, with a strong track record of close collaboration with local communities and an extensive network. By complementarily leveraging the university’s educational and research resources as well as its regional networks alongside JIRCAS’s international research activities, further contributions to international agriculture, forestry, and fisheries research are expected.

This agreement covers the university as a whole, including the Setagaya, Atsugi, and Hokkaido Okhotsk campuses. In addition to strengthening the international research infrastructure, it aims to further promote the social implementation of research results both domestically and internationally, thereby contributing to solving global food and environmental issues and building sustainable food systems.

Going forward, JIRCAS and Tokyo University of Agriculture will sequentially develop various collaboration activities, including joint research, human resource development programs, field-based demonstration studies, and co-hosting of symposia and seminars, to further advance international agriculture, forestry, and fisheries research and the social implementation of its results.

【Areas of Collaboration and Cooperation】

Under this comprehensive collaboration agreement, JIRCAS and Tokyo University of Agriculture will collaborate and cooperate on the following:

  1. Promotion of joint research
  2. Dissemination of research results
  3. Promotion of research exchanges between researchers and faculty
  4. Promotion of researcher and student exchange programs
  5. Mutual use of research facilities, equipment, and materials
  6. Sharing and mutual dissemination of information

Through these efforts, both institutions aim to co-create by leveraging their intellectual resources and technical capabilities, contributing to solving domestic and international challenges in agriculture, food, and environmental fields, as well as advancing academia and society.
