Announcement of JIRCAS International Symposium 2024
―Resilient Genetic Resources for Food Security in the Era of Global Boiling: Opportunities and Challenges―

The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) will hold the "JIRCAS International Symposium 2024" at the U Thant International Conference Hall, United Nations University, on Friday, November 22, 2024. The symposium will feature lectures and discussions by renowned domestic and international experts on the theme "Resilient Genetic Resources for Food Security in the Era of Global Boiling: Opportunities and Challenges."

In recent years, global warming has become so severe that it is now described as "global boiling," with an expected increase in extreme weather events due to climate change. These changes are having a significant impact on global food security, with particular concerns for developing regions.
This symposium will focus on climate-resilient food crop genetic resources and the potential of Neglected and Underutilized Species (NUS) that have not been sufficiently utilized to date. Discussions will center on conserving and utilizing genetic resource diversity and strengthening international cooperation to build resilient food systems.

Through this symposium, we aim to present innovative approaches to address food security challenges in the era of climate change and promote international research cooperation.
