Overview
The 52nd TARF Public Lecture, entitled "Strawberry Cultivation on Ishigaki Island" and hosted by the JIRCAS Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF), is scheduled for Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the Ishigaki City Health and Welfare Center.
TARF has been actively collaborating with private companies, the National Agricultural and Food Research Organization (NARO), and various universities to develop the Asian Monsoon Plant Factory System (AMPFS). This collaborative effort aims to advance production technologies for vegetables and crops in tropical and subtropical regions.
The upcoming public lecture will highlight key technologies used in strawberry production, with a particular focus on soilless cultivation*1 and greenhouse environmental control*2 within the AMPFS, which is designed for tropical and subtropical climates. By sharing insights into our research efforts, we aim to stimulate interest among residents in the Yaeyama area and encourage them to explore greenhouse strawberry production.
*1 Soilless cultivation: A cultivation method where water and essential nutrients for plant growth are supplied as a nutrient solution without the use of soil.
*2 Greenhouse environmental control: A system designed to regulate environmental factors such as air temperature, humidity, light, and CO2 concentration optimal for plant growth.
