Launched in 2022, the Green Asia Project aims to promote the development of a sustainable food system in the Asia-Monsoon Region.
As part of this effort, we are compiling the "Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region" in partnership with relevant organizations.

We hope that this catalog will become a valuable resource for various stakeholders in the Asia-Monsoon region, guiding the implementation of sustainable practices in various fields through optimization and effective coordination.

■ Latest Topics
● MAFF Event at COP28 Highlights Green Asia Initiatives
The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 30 to December 13, 2023. As one of the events of COP28, a seminar introducing Green Asia was held on December 10, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

● ASEAN Forum Highlights the Technology Catalog for Asia-Monsoon Region
The ASEAN Secretariat and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) jointly hosted the "ASEAN Forum on Action Plan for the Implementation of Regional Guidelines on Sustainable Agriculture" in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 22-23, 2023. ● JIRCAS Holds First Meeting of the Platform for the Utilization of Joint Crediting Mechanism in Agriculture
The first meeting of the "Platform for the Implementation of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Agriculture" was held online on January 10, 2024, with JIRCAS serving as the secretariat.

■ New Technologies and Research Outputs
Livestock production is responsible for 14% of the world's total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In this issue, we present JIRCAS research on livestock production.

● Enteric methane emission models for beef cattle in Southeast Asia
Given the significant contribution of livestock to greenhouse gas emissions, it is critical to accurately assess their environmental impact.
The estimation equation developed in this study not only offers increased accuracy, but also represents a simpler approach compared to existing methods.

● Greenhouse gas emission factor value from Vietnamese beef cattle manure sun-drying process
In the southern regions of Vietnam, beef cattle farmers commonly utilize sun-drying to manage their manure, a practice known to release greenhouse gases.
The coefficient derived from measuring the greenhouse gases produced during this sun-drying process holds potential for future applications.

● A comprehensive assessment of greenhouse gas emissions from Thai beef cattle production
Detailed analysis of methane emissions throughout the production stages of Thai beef cattle showed that incorporating rice straw into sedimentary manure promotes organic matter decomposition, mitigates methane emission peaks, and enhances methane metabolism. Notably, this practice demonstrates a limited overall impact on total greenhouse gas emissions.
