Overview

The Tropical Agriculture Research Front (TARF) of JIRCAS will hold its “19th Open House” on Saturday, July 4, 2026, to give the local community a closer look at its frontline international research in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.

Resumed in FY2024, this event once again offers a wide range of programs that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages, from families with children to students and the general public.

 

Highlights

  • Fun for the whole family! An easy-to-understand introduction to research.
    • “Is Sugar Only From Sugarcane? Fun facts about sugarcane” introduces various sugarcane varieties and sugars produced from crops other than sugarcane
    • “Experience the Wonders of Soil” presents fascinating aspects of soil found in our everyday surroundings
    • “An Illustrated Guide to Tropical Fruit Trees” showcases research findings on diverse tropical fruits, including mango
       
  • For junior high/high school students and adults! A more detailed research introduction
    • Listen to clear explanations of cutting-edge research (e.g., rice, cassava, greenhouse horticulture) that address global agricultural challenges
    • Experience innovative ideas and advanced technologies that respond to local needs
       
  • Mini-lectures
    • Two researchers will each give one lecture (held once in the morning and afternoon) on the latest research topics
       
  • Agricultural machinery display & quiz stamp rally
    • Visitors can view actual farm machinery and enjoy a quiz rally designed for parents and children together

Through this event, we hope to inspire interest in international research in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. The mascot character “Nekken-kun” will also be there to welcome visitors.
