JARQ : Japan Agricultural Research Quarterly

About JARQ

The Japan Agricultural Research Quarterly (JARQ) is a publication of the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), which provides readers overseas with the latest information on key achievements and developments in agricultural research in Japan, with the expectation that this information would contribute to the agricultural development of countries in tropical and subtropical regions.

The JARQ has updated its editorial policy to meet the demands of the times. The current editorial policy, revised on March 12, 2025, aims to "disseminate findings and trends in research related to Japan's agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, as well as international collaborative research involving Japanese researchers, to a broad audience both domestically and internationally through original articles and reviews." To this end, JARQ publishes original articles and research reviews, which are expected to contribute to agricultural development in developing regions.

The JARQ editorial policy revised on July 23, 1999 featured a different classification of papers. At that time, all submissions were classified as "research articles" and not limited to original articles, allowing authors to present "the aims, methods, results, and broader impact of a series of research, including previously published work."

Following the 1999 policy, the JARQ editorial office accepted research articles that included previously published content. However, the current editorial policy (revised on March 12, 2025) defines original articles as "papers that summarize the results of research conducted by the author, with no precedent in content or other aspects." Therefore, under the 2025 policy, previously published papers are no longer accepted.
