Start of Methane Flux Tower Observation in Rice Fields

In October 2025, a methane flux observation tower was installed and put into operation in the Damnak Ampil Irrigation Scheme, Pursat Province, to evaluate methane emissions from rice cultivation. The observation applies the gradient method, in which air is sampled at two different heights on the tower and methane fluxes are estimated based on the concentration difference and wind speed data.

This observation enables continuous evaluation of how differences in water management practices and cultivation conditions influence methane emissions at the irrigation-block scale (several hectares). The data obtained will contribute to assessing emissions at broader scales and will serve as fundamental information for developing new MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) methodologies aimed at methane reduction in rice production.
