Procedure for the construction of a model for simultaneous analysis of a combination of productivity and adaptability traits in African cattle

Country
Africa

Description

[Synopsis]

A model the for simultaneous analysis of genetic (co) variances for productivity and adaptability was developed by based in a Bayesian procedure. Herd life and milk yield were selected as adaptability and productivity traits, respectively. This procedure was applied to the data set of Friesian cattle in Kenya. Heritability values for milk yield and herd life were 0.172 and 0.4, 24, respectively. Genetic correlation was -0.452. These data indicate that simultaneous analysis must be carried out to a void losing genetic diversity in each trait.
