Function and Regulation of Genes Responsive to Dehydration in Higher Plants

Description

[Synopsis]

Genes responsive to dehydration in Arabidopsis thaliana and Vigna unguiculata were isolated. Sequence analyses of these genes indicate that their products may function in protecting cells form dehydration. We also analyzed the promoter of dehydration-inducible Arabidopsis gene, rd29A, in transgenic plants, and identified a novel cis-acting element involved in responsiveness to dehydration, lowtemperature, or high-salt stress.
