"Bari" means "crack" in local dialect, thus "Bari-ishi" means "broken stone". Measuring 9.0 x 7.0 x 3.9 m and weighing an estimated 216 tons, it is internationally recognized as the world's largest hump coral tsunami stone.
"Tsunami Stones on the East Coast of Ishigaki Island" is the collective name for five huge stones ("Tsunami-oishi", "Takakoruse-ishi", "Amatariyasuuare", "Yasuraufukane", and "Bari-ishi") on the east side of Ishigaki Island that were washed up or moved by the 1771 Meiwa Tsunami. They were designated as a national natural treasure in 2013.

【Attention】"Bari-ishi" stone is located in Ibaruma Ranch. The road inside the ranch is not good, and it is difficult to proceed in a low-height vehicle. Also, visitors should be aware that viewing the site depends on the ebb and flow of the tide.
