This species has a blade that is flat, fibrous, single-layered, slightly calcified and fan-shaped or ginkgo-shaped. The stem is very short, and the holdfast is small. The color changes to ash green when dried. The plants are found on shady rocks or dead coral in subtidal zones along wave exposed to calm shorelines.
