This species is thin, crusty, calcified, amorphously round in shape and adheres to the substrates. The surface is slick to the touch. Although the color is russet to maroon with dark red radiating lines and rims when it is alive, it changes to a dull white when dried. The plants are found on rocks in lower intertidal to subtidal zones along moderately wave exposed shorelines.

Fresh specimen.
