The plants are flat, thin and 4 cells thick, soft and slightly leather-like to the touch, and reach about 15-20 cm in height. Blades are divided into numerous flabellate pieces. The color of this seaweed is slightly dark brown. The plants grow on rocks or dead coral in subtidal zones along moderately wave exposed shorelines.
