This species is soft, lubricious, slightly calcified, pinkish in color and ramiform. The branches are cylindrical, irregularly dichotomous with knot-shaped projections. The apical portions are bifurcate, round and red in color. The plants are found on rocks in lower intertidal zones along shorelines with calm to moderate water movement.
