The plants are up to 20 mm tall, strongly calcified, and form intricate clumps. The branches are generally dichotomous, cylindrical and 70-100 µm in diameter. Terminal segments are compressed and have an inverted triangular shape. It is commonly found attached to other seaweeds and occasionally on rocks in subtidal zones along shorelines with moderate to strong water movement.
