The plants are brittle, and form densely intricate clumps. The branches of this species are cylindrical to slightly compressed, alternate irregularly, and have acuminate apical portions. This seaweed has a dark red to purple colored fluorescence when it is underwater, and found on rocks or dead coral in subtidal zones along shorelines with moderate to strong water movement.
