The plants have slightly calcified branches that are cylindrical and irregularly dichotomous, and covered with short filaments along the entire length. The color of this species is dark red to a reddish brown. This seaweed grows on submerged rocks or dead coral in subtidal zones along shorelines with moderate wave activity.
