The plants are erect, bushy growing and 6-15 cm high. The branches are strap-shaped, regularly dichotomously divided, 3-6 mm wide, with spines on the margins and obtuse tips. This species is found on rocks and gravel in lower intertidal to subtidal zones along moderately wave exposed shorelines.
