The plants are erect, and form busy tufts. The branches are slender, filiform and divided dichotomously 1-2 times in the upper portions. Successive whorls of spines are observed at their nodes and consist of 2 cells. The branch apices are bifurcate and curve inwards. This species is found on rocks in middle to lower intertidal zones along strongly wave exposed shorelines.
