The flat and fan-shaped blades of this species arise from a short and slender stem. The holdfast is small and less than 1 cm in length. The blade filaments are slender, dichotomously branched and constricted at the branching points. The apices of filaments are aculeate. This seaweed is found on rocks covered thinly in sand in subtidal zones along moderately wave exposed shorelines.
